Several films have been set and/or partially filmed in the Del Rio and Val Verde area since the 1950s, including several versions of the Alamo story, (including John Wayne's The Alamo), Lonesome Dove, Bad Girls, Like Water for Chocolate, Rolling Thunder, possibly the West Texas (or Acunya) parts of Kill Bill, Robert Rodriguez's El Mariachi and Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, and No Country for Old Men.

Judge Roy Bean, a famous Texas lawman and judge - The Law West of the Pecos, was based in Langtry, Val Verde county, only about an hour northwest of base. The town of Langtry has a small set of tourist attractions base on Judge Bean.

Theater goers may be interested in the local Upstagers All Volunteer Theatre Group, which puts on multiple shows a year.

Ciudad Acunya is the city on the other side of the US-Mexico border from Del Rio. It has a population of about 135,000 people, and an active factory economy. Much of this city is off limits to Air Force personnel. This city was once home of XERB radio, famous for projecting a powerful broadcast AM radio signal across most of the USA, with shows featuring major 1960s and 1970s star radio DJ Wolfman Jack.
